14 Dead In Delhi’s Asha Kiran, Magistrate Orders Probe, Minister Seeks Report In 48 Hours

Many cases of mysterious deaths are coming to light in Asha Kiran Shelter Home located in Rohini, Delhi. This shelter home is built for the mentally challenged, in which 14 deaths have been reported since the beginning of this year i.e. January 2024. Delhi government has started strict action in this matter.

Delhi Government Minister Atishi has directed the Additional Chief Secretary to the Revenue Minister to conduct an inquiry into the deaths taking place in the shelter home and has also sought a report of the inquiry within 48 hours. While passing the order, Atishi has said that information about Asha Kiran Home located in Rohini has been published in the newspaper.

14 deaths in eight months

Talking about the newspaper, Atishi said that since January 2024, it is said that 14 people have died in this shelter home and the cause of these deaths is also said to be health related problems and malnutrition, due to which the facilities in the shelter home have deteriorated. He further said that it is very shocking to hear such bad news in the national capital. Showing strictness in the investigation, he has said that if this is proved to be true in the investigation, then such negligence will not be taken into account at all.

The magistrate ordered an inquiry

Atishi has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the matter. He said that the matter should be thoroughly investigated so that strict measures can be taken to improve the condition of all the shelter homes and the entire system can be changed to provide better facilities to the shelter home residents. Further, Atishi directed the ACS Revenue that if the case is proved to be true, action will be taken against those found negligent in this regard and necessary steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in future.
