16 Deaths In 3 Days In Gujarat, No Food, No Accommodation… Flood Chaos In Gujarat


Even today, rain is continuing in many places in Gujarat. Devbhoomi Dwarka district of Gujarat has recorded the highest rainfall in 24 hours. Dwarka district has received more than 12 inches of rain. Many roads in Dwarka have been affected by floods due to heavy rains. Jamnagar district is also in a bad situation due to floods. People are being rescued in many places. The Coast Guard rescued 13 fishermen from the sea by helicopter. Even today, people are being rescued by helicopters in Jamnagar.

After Dwarka and Jamnagar, Vadodara district is worst affected by floods. Even today, flood waters persist in Vadodara. Due to the water of Vishwamitri river, the city is in chaos. People in Vadodara’s Sayajiganj, Akota, Harani, Karelibagh, Sama, Vemali, OP Road, Tandalja, Ravapura, Alkapuri, Pratikganj are still battling the floods. Local people are also facing difficulty in getting food. In-charge Minister Hrishikesh Patel took stock of the flood situation in Vadodara on Wednesday.

Today CM Bhupendra Patel held an emergency meeting

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel called a meeting at the State Emergency Control Center on Wednesday. Reviewed the situation through video conferencing with all the Collectors and Commissioners. The condition of roads on Morbi-Kutch highway has worsened due to floods. There are big potholes on the road. SDRF rescued a girl child in Chhota Udepur district. Dhoraji, Upleta, Jetpur in Rajkot also had some people trapped who were evacuated safely.

Helping people affected by rains and floods

Many social workers and service organizations have come forward to help the people affected by the rains and floods. Food packages and goods are being delivered to people. The central government has also assured all necessary help. The situation is even worse in Dahod district. Heavy rains in three days have created desolation in the district. 16 rivers, 83 lakes and seven dams have overflowed. 14 cattle have died in heavy rains, six people have been rescued. 408 houses in Kutch have collapsed due to heavy rains along with strong winds. Two people died due to rain.

So far 16 people have died

The number of people losing their lives in rain and flood incidents has increased. Last Tuesday, the news of the death of nine more people came to light. A total of 16 people have lost their lives so far. Three people were killed when a wall collapsed in Anand district on Tuesday. Two people were killed in the wall collapse incident in Mahisagar district and one person each in Kheda and Ahmedabad. One person each died due to drowning in rainwater in Junagadh and Bharuch districts.

8 thousand people were shifted to safe place

At the same time, 8,500 people were rescued from flood-affected areas and taken to safer places. NDRF, SDRF, Army, Air Force and Indian Coast Guard have been deployed in the flood affected areas for rescue operations. The State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) released the data and said that several districts of Saurashtra region, especially Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Porbandar and Rajkot, received very heavy rainfall in a span of 24 hours. Khambhalia taluk of Dwarka district recorded 454 millimeters (mm) of rain, followed by Jamnagar with 387 mm and Jamjodhpur taluk of Jamnagar with 329 mm.

Public life in Gujarat is chaotic

According to SEOC, during this period, 13 talukas out of 251 talukas of the state received over 200 mm of rain and 39 talukas over 100 mm, disrupting life. Also low-lying areas were flooded. Although the rains have stopped in Vadodara, several low-lying areas of the city have been submerged due to flooding in the Vishwamitri River. However, relief operations by NDRF, SDRF and other agencies are ongoing. Five columns of army each have been deployed in Morbi, Anand, Dwarka, Rajkot and Vadodara for relief and rescue, flood defense officials said.

Impact of rain and floods on traffic

Due to rains and floods, 137 reservoirs, lakes and 24 rivers in Gujarat are flowing above the danger mark, causing flooding in low-lying areas. Western Railway said roads and railway lines were inundated due to rain, which also disrupted traffic and train movement. Eight trains, including the Mumbai-bound Vande Bharat Express, were canceled and another 10 trains were partially cancelled.
