Just 17 days after the wedding in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, the newlywed bride reached her maternal uncle’s house. The husband kept calling her back but she kept making excuses. A few days later, she sent such pictures to her husband on Facebook, after seeing which he went to the police station. He filed a case of fraud and theft against the bride. But as there was no action, he sought help from the SP.
The case is from Janakganj police station area. Here in Gol Paharia Janakpuri lives a man named Santosh Prajapati, who works in a private company. Santosh approached Janakganj SP, expressed his pain and sought his help. Said- Sir, I have been going around the police station for the last 6 months. But my case is not being investigated properly. The victim said- I was looking for a bride for marriage. Nitin Prajapati and Anjali Kushwaha married me in August 2022.
Said – Both are my acquaintance. He came home and said that in his eyes Prajapati is an educated girl of the society. Her parents are also looking for a good boy. Nitin and Anjali showed me the girl. Talked to him once. Then I said yes. The girl’s name was revealed to be Anjali Prajapati. I got engaged to Anjali Prajapati on October 3, 2022. We gave him a gold ring, gold earrings, silver anklets, an expensive Titan watch and a coin worth Rs 11,000. On 14 February 2024, the wedding took place at the city’s Jain Dharamshala, Mamani Bazar. 4 lakhs worth of gold was given.

Santhosh further said – Anjali Prajapati was picked up by her parents after 3 days of marriage. After Holi I reached my in-laws house on 28 March 2024. He took his wife home after leaving for the first time. After 14 days, on the morning of 10th April, I left for work. He was not found at home when he returned at 7 p.m. It was revealed that he had gone to his maternal uncle’s house. When I called, she said she would be back in two-three days. But she did not return. Meanwhile, one day I checked the cupboard locker and found that Rs. 4 lakhs worth of jewelery and Rs. 25 thousand cash was taken.
The first marriage took place last year
The victim said – When I asked my wife about this, she said that she is returning on May 15. Then I will bring all the materials. But in the evening his mother called and said that her son Anjali had run away. After this he sent his wedding photos through Facebook Messenger. She was married to a man of Abhishek lineage. When we got to know about the fraud, we spoke to matchmakers Nitin and Anjali Kushwaha and they said we have arranged the relationship, it doesn’t matter to us if your wife stays or runs away. Then when we came to know, a truth came out. Anjali married Abhishek on 23 October 2023.
The mediators witnessed the first marriage
According to Santosh, the main witnesses of the bride’s first marriage were Nitin and Anjali themselves, who also conducted Santosh’s marriage. It means both of them already knew that Anjali is married to Prajapati. Santosh alleges that they still got Anjali married to him. The victim had stolen bride’s gold mangalsutra, gold necklace, gold necklace, gold nose ring, gold chain with Om locket, silver jewellery, Rs. 25,000 and stole all the other engagement jewellery, along with about Rs. 5 lakh is alleged to have been taken away.
The SP ordered the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. If the girl is found guilty, strict action should be taken against her. Along with this, action should also be taken against middlemen who cheat people and build happy relationships.
