Briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that these major projects will augment urban infrastructure in these cities. All three projects are expected to be completed by 2029. In addition to these metro projects, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the development of two new civil enclaves at Bagdagora Airport (West Bengal) and Bihta (Bihar).

Both will be developed at a combined cost of about Rs 3,000 crore. Giving information, Union Minister Vaishnav said that before 2014, only five cities had metro but today 21 cities have metro facilities. He said that since the government recently assumed office, infrastructure projects worth over Rs 2 lakh crore have been approved.

The Cabinet has approved another Maharashtra Metro project. The cost of which is Rs 2,954.53 crore. This project is actually an extension of the Pune Metro Phase 1. According to the statement, this new extension will span 5.46 km and will include three underground stations, connecting important areas like Market Yard, Bibwewadi, Balaji Nagar and Katraj.

Two civil enclaves will be built

On the other hand, a new civil enclave will be developed at Bagdogra airport at a cost of Rs 1,549 crore while a new civil enclave will be constructed at Bihta at a cost of Rs 1,413 crore. According to an official release, the terminal building will be constructed on an area of ​​70,390 sq m under the new civil enclave at Bagdogra airport. Its capacity will be to handle 3,000 passengers per hour while its annual capacity will be to handle one million passengers.

Apart from this, a new civil enclave will be developed at Bihta, Bihar at a cost of Rs 1,413 crore. The new integrated terminal building at Bihta will be spread over an area of ​​66,000 sq m. It will be equipped with a capacity to handle 3,000 passengers per hour while its annual capacity will be to handle 50 lakh passengers. However, if required, the capacity of the Bihta terminal can be increased to one million passengers per annum. There are currently 157 operational airports in the country and it is one of the fastest growing civil aviation markets.
