These days, evil criminals who commit fraud are devising new tricks every day. Fraud methods are changing every day. People are being cheated in the name of downloading an app in mobile for verification of prepaid smart electricity meters. Fraudsters are stealing huge amounts of money from their accounts. In Muzaffarpur, the electricity department has appealed to consumers to stay away from the scheme to prevent fraud.

Physical verification is done by electricity department. No online or any kind of app help is taken for this. Cyber fraudsters have tried this trick on many people in Muzaffarpur as well. Some have also become their victims. To prevent this, the Energy Department has appealed to its electricity consumers to stay away from this scheme. Asked to be alert on every call.

Thus becoming victims of fraud

Malighat resident Ramesh Kumar received a cyber fraud call for verification. Ramesh said a call came from Bengaluru in which the person said he was calling from the technical cell of the electricity department. Your meter is not recharged. Asked him to install an app. Ramesh Kumar confessed to cheating. He transferred ₹16 to the account. After this his mobile stopped working for some time.

When the mobile started working properly, ₹3500 disappeared from his account. The money was transferred from his account through UPI. He also lodged a complaint online but nothing specific has been found so far.

App not downloaded

Jan Suraj worker Abdul Majeed has complained to the electricity office about this. He said that he received a call yesterday. Said it is telling the electricity department that your smart meter is about to finish recharging. Smart meters have also not been verified. In this regard, he was advised to load an app in his mobile. Asked to upload and transfer ₹16 by him. Abdul Majeed called the local executive engineer of the electricity department and informed about this. App is not downloaded in mobile. This saved Abdul Majeed from becoming a victim of fraud.
