Anurag Kashyap entered the world of lights, cameras and action in 1994 by writing dialogues in an episode of the TV serial Shanti. Born on 10 September 1972 in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, Anurag was interested in cinema since childhood. But lost in between. The idea of becoming a scientist came. For this he also took admission in Zoology in Delhi’s Hansraj College. Anurag had left not the cinema, but the cinema business. During the college days there were street plays. After completing the course, Anurag got excited and joined the street theater group Jan Natya Manch.
It is said that at this time he got a chance to go to an Indian film festival. You can imagine his passion for films from the fact that he watched 55 films in 10 days at this film festival. During this time, he was greatly influenced by Voterio de Sacca’s film Byslak Thieves. After this he decided to go to Mumbai. In 1993, he took 5000 rupees from home and left for Mumbai. But he got this film because of Manoj Bajpayee. It was Manoj who introduced Anurag to Ram Gopal Varma. Ram Gopal Varma needed a writer. He then wrote Satya with Ram Gopal Varma and the film proved to be a cult crime thriller.

Manoj Bajpayee and Anurag Kashyap worked together in four projects. The first film was Satya. After this, Anurag Kashyap worked together in projects like Kaun and Shool. Both these films were also directed by Ram Gopal Varma and starred Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role. After 13 years the two worked together in Gangs of Wasseypur. Manoj responded in an interview about not working together for so long.
Manoj Bajpayee said, “Nothing happened. There was a misunderstanding about some things. There was no conversation. Sometimes we feel shame when something is taken too far. Didn’t negotiate. That too, no one was making my kind of film, in which I was needed. He also felt that Manoj Bajpayee was not needed now as his career was going downhill. That’s why we both were busy in our lives. Neither did he need me nor did I need him.”
Anrag Kashyap’s last film was Kennedy, which was released in the year 2023. Along with writing it, Anurag also directed it. Anurag currently has several projects lined up. There is Maximum City, a project with Saiyami Kher. Apart from this, there is also an untitled project with Bobby Deol.
