Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar has announced to hold elections in three phases in Jammu and Kashmir. The Election Commissioner has announced that polling will be held on September 18, September 25 and October 1 on 90 seats in Jammu and Kashmir. Counting of votes will be conducted on October 4. The last assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir were held in November-December 2014 and in 2019 this will be the first assembly elections in the former state after the abrogation of Article 370. Before this, Lok Sabha elections were held for the year 2024. A large number of voters cast their votes during the Lok Sabha elections held in three seats of Jammu and Kashmir.
Rajeev Kumar said that there are 11,838 polling booths in Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir has 87.09 lakh voters, with an equal percentage of men and women. Out of the total electorate, there are 44.46 lakh male and 42.62 lakh female voters. 3.71 lakh of them are first-time voters.
The Election Commissioner said that adequate security arrangements will be made during the elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Adequate security will be provided to every candidate.
Jammu and Kashmir has more than 87 lakh voters.
He said this shows that the average number of voters per polling station in Jammu and Kashmir is 735. Out of total 90 Assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, 74 are reserved for General, nine for Scheduled Tribes and seven for Scheduled Castes.
