The new Big Ten football landscape, with 18 schools and USC being a part of the action, is a wondrous and fascinating place. How the West Coast schools will affect the old guard and vice-versa will be one of the most interesting aspects of the 2024 college football season. USC will be interested in how Midwestern teams such as the Iowa Hawkeyes perform. It used to be that Pac-12 teams cared about the Big Ten only when the Rose Bowl rolled around. Now the teams which used to be in the Pac-12 will now care a lot more about the teams in the Midwest.

“With head coach Kirk Ferentz and wide receiver coach Jon Budmayr sidelined for the Iowa Hawkeyes’ season opener against Illinois State, coaching responsibilities will be shuffling.
Kirk Ferentz oversees the managerial duties of the Hawkeyes such as going for it or punting on fourth downs, when to use timeouts, and overall game management decisions. That will become the duties of acting head coach Seth Wallace, the assistant head coach and linebackers coach. Offensively, Budmayr’s absence will thrust some new faces into the wide receiver group. The wide receiver group will be coached by offensive coordinator Tim Lester with the help of graduate assistant Tanner Krueger.”
