Bihar: Police Attacked In Protest Against Killing Of Dalit Girl, 17 Accused Arrested


In Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district, 17 people were arrested on Sunday in connection with clashes with police and protesters taking out a procession to protest the recent killing of a minor Dalit girl. Meanwhile, the district police on Saturday seized the property of fugitive Sanjay Rai, the main accused in the murder of a Dalit minor girl.

According to a statement issued by the office of District Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rakesh Kumar on Sunday, an alleged leader of Das Mohalla of Navinnagar Police Station in Aurangabad district and Golden Das along with his supporters attacked Naya Tola Lalu of Paru. Attempts were made to spread caste frenzy and violence, spread tension and disrupt law and order in Chhapra in the police station area.

According to the statement, supporters of Golden Das and miscreants vandalized several houses and places. The police team, which was constantly camping near the place of the incident and the house of the deceased, revealed a lot. Even then, Golden Das and his supporters attacked the police team as well.

According to the information, the police have arrested Golden Das and 16 other people. In this, a case has been registered against 47 named and 250 unidentified persons at Paru police station on charges of spreading caste frenzy and violence, creating law and order problem and assaulting the police. Muzaffarpur Nagar Superintendent of Police has also conducted necessary investigation in this matter.

Meanwhile, the district police on Saturday seized the property of fugitive Sanjay Rai, the prime accused in the murder of a Dalit minor girl. According to the SSP, a warrant was obtained from the court against Sanjay Rai. Earlier this week, the girl’s family accused Sanjay Rai of abducting her from her home.

We pasted a court notice on the wall of Rai’s house, asking him to surrender by Saturday afternoon, the SSP said on Sunday. As he did not surrender, his property was confiscated. We have also started a search operation and hope to arrest him as soon as possible.

Sanjay Rai is accused of forcing the girl’s family to marry him and allegedly kidnapped her along with five others on the night of August 11 and 12. Later, the mutilated body of the victim was recovered from a lake in a village in Paru police station area. His legs were tied and his head, neck and hands were marked with sharp weapons. Police also recovered a scalpel (agricultural tool) from the spot.
