As a precaution against monkeypox infection in Maharashtra, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has completed preparations. A 14-bed ward has been reserved in Seven Hills Hospital for this. However, there is not a single case of ‘monkeypox’ in the Mumbai metropolitan area. But steps have been taken by BMC as per instructions of Govt.

There is coordination with the International Airport’s Health Information Room and the Public Health Department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), which is also monitoring the arrivals from outside.

Cases of monkeypox have been reported in Pakistan and Sweden. Keeping this in mind, precautionary measures are being taken by the government. Extra precautions are being taken considering the number of foreign visitors in the Mumbai metropolis. Under this, a ward with 14 beds has been reserved in BMC’s Seven Hills Hospital.

No case of ‘monkeypox’ infection has been reported in the BMC area so far. So citizens are also being appealed not to panic. In view of the speed and severity of ‘monkeypox’ infection in several countries of the world, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued precautionary instructions to all states of India.

Following this, Maharashtra government has also issued instructions for ‘monkeypox’ survey, prevention and control measures. In this background and considering the number of citizens coming from abroad to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, the BMC has initiated preparations for the prevention and measures of ‘monkeypox’ disease. In this regard, BMC has reserved a ward for ‘monkeypox’ patients at Seven Hills Hospital. This ward has 14 beds. Apart from this, the hospital administration has also made preparations to increase this number as per requirement.

Infection of the viral disease ‘Monkeypox’ has been seen increasing in various countries of the world. Consequently, considering the speed of ‘monkeypox’ infection and the severity of the disease, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare held a meeting on August 18. The meeting instructed to adopt guidelines for timely prevention of ‘Monkeypox’ infection.

A joint coordination meeting of Airport Health Officer (APHO), Immigration Officer and Executive Health Officer was held on Wednesday regarding ‘monkeypox’. The APHO department is screening citizens and other travelers from African countries affected by ‘monkeypox’.

Apart from this a Health Information Desk has been made available at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (Mumbai) by APHO office. If a person suspected of having ‘monkeypox’ is found among the passengers, they will be sent to the Municipal Corporation’s Seven Hills Hospital for isolation and further treatment.

A total of 14 beds have been reserved for ‘monkeypox’ patients at Seven Hills Hospital. Apart from this coordination is being maintained by the Public Health Department of BMC with the Airport Health Officer’s office.
