On July 27, a horrific accident took place in Delhi’s Old Rajendra Nagar, the basement of a coaching center was flooded, killing 3 students preparing for the IAS exam, causing pandemonium across Delhi. There was an uproar in the case of negligence, after which the Supreme Court took action on the matter on Monday. The court said in this matter that it will take cognizance (suo motu case).

The court also said that the Delhi incident in which three students lost their lives was an eye opener. No establishment should be allowed to operate unless it complies with safety standards.

The court sought an answer

Taking notice of the coaching center issue, the Supreme Court itself has sent a notice to the Center and the Delhi government and sought a response. The court said that the coaching center is playing with the lives of students from different parts of the country. A bench of Justices Suryakant and Ujjal Bhuya heard the case. The court also said that unless all the safeguards are in place for such coaching, such coaching should be done online.

A fine of 1 lakh has been imposed

The matter is also being heard in the Delhi High Court and the coaching federation approached the Supreme Court against the High Court’s order regarding compliance with fire safety rules. The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal challenging the High Court and also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the petitioner.

The High Court ordered a CBI probe
