College football recruiting: Hoban’s Tayte Crable commits to the Toledo Rockets

Archbishop Hoban football player Tayte Crable is entering his senior season as a University of Toledo recruit.

Crable has committed to play tight end for the Rockets on a scholarship after helping Hoban finish as the Division II state runner-up in each of the past two seasons.

“When I was riding around and looking at everything, I felt like the city [of Toledo] and the area that the university is in reminded me a lot of where I live in Massillon, also where I go to school and where I hang out with my friends at in Akron and then a little bit of the Jackson area,” Crable said.

“It reminded me of home. When I was there and I was waking up in the hotel during my official visit, it wasn’t like ‘Where am I at?’ It was more like I felt like ‘I can get out of the hotel, get in my own car and drive around like I knew the place.’ That was a big deal for me choosing Toledo, and obviously their record and what they do in the MAC speaks for itself.”

Crable, who is 6-foot-4¾ and 220 pounds, is in his third year at Hoban after playing his freshman year at Massillon. He was a wide receiver as a freshman and sophomore and switched to tight end prior to his junior season.

“Tayte really liked Toledo,” Hoban coach Tim Tyrrell said. “He had some other offers … but he really liked the style of offense and [Toledo] coach [Jason] Candle is obviously a very good coach. He uses that hybrid tight end a lot. I think this is a perfect fit for him and he really enjoyed his visit. He saw some other places and just thought Toledo was the place for him.”

“I am looking forward to getting to Toledo and continuing what they have built,” said Crable, who has a 3.3 GPA and plans to major in business.

Crable’s brother, Jayvian Crable, graduated from Hoban in 2023 and is an outside linebacker on the Ohio University football team.
