Delhi Coaching Accident: Students Sit On Fast Unto Death After Strike, Put Forward Their Demands


Students protest against coaching accident

The death of three students in the basement of the Rao IAS Coaching Center in old Rajendra Nagar is not making a fuss. While acting on the matter, the MCD has sealed 29 UPSC coaching centers operating in basements. The student protest continues. Meanwhile, the students have started a fast unto death demanding action in this matter. Around a dozen students have been on hunger strike outside the coaching center since late Tuesday night.

Students on indefinite hunger strike demand that FIR be registered against all the culprits including Rao IAS, MCD, officials and public servants directly and indirectly involved in such gross mismanagement in Old Rajendra Nagar, Patel Nagar and all affected places. Along with this, compensation of Rs 2 crore should be given to each deceased by both the government and the organization.

Demands of agitating students

‘Investigation should be conducted under the supervision of the Supreme Court’

The students say that the Supreme Court should monitor the entire process of investigating the case. All basements including coaching institutes, libraries and PG (weak and old building infrastructure) should be properly inspected for safety and security measures and those found illegal should be closed permanently with immediate effect. Local MLA, MP and MCD Commissioner should come to him and talk to him.

‘CCTV footage should be released’

The students demand that the FIR filed be made public and the names of those involved in public life be disclosed. The CCTV footage should be released, the status of all cameras in the vicinity should be surveyed and a committee should be constituted comprising members of all municipal bodies to issue NOCs to coaching institutes, libraries and all businesses running in these places. Students are protesting with 9 similar demands.

‘Protest will continue until demands are met’

Students say that they are not taken seriously because they are candidates and after some time they will get tired and broke and come back to study but this is not the case. The students said that the protest will continue till they get justice and they will not back down. He said that the indefinite hunger strike will continue until the demands are met. He said that he has been protesting for the last 4 days but no one has come to talk to him during this time.

‘Banning use of basement for coaching’

The students said that the local MLA, MP and MCD commissioner should come and talk to them. The students say that the committee should submit complete details of the FIR registered in the incident within a certain time limit. They also demand that the use of libraries and basements for coaching should be banned across Delhi.
