A two-member bench said during the hearing that if the matter is deemed necessary, it will issue instructions to the entire country to prevent incidents like the old Rajendra Nagar.

Three students died in the coaching centre

Let us tell you that on July 27, an accident took place in Rau’s IAS study circle in Old Rajendra Nagar area of Delhi. After heavy rains, water entered the library in the basement, which led to the death of three students preparing for civil services. The three students who died in the accident are Nevin Delvin (24) from Kerala, Tanya Soni (25) from Telangana and Shreya Yadav (25) from Uttar Pradesh.

Earlier, during the hearing of this case on August 5, the Supreme Court had said that it seems that coaching centers have become like death chambers. These centers are playing games with students’ lives. The court also sent a notice to the Center and the Delhi government in this matter.

The Supreme Court took notice of the matter while hearing a petition filed by an association of coaching centres. By filing this petition, the Delhi High Court’s December 2023 order was challenged, in which the high court had directed municipal bodies and the city’s fire services to inspect all coaching centres. The court ordered that both should see that fire safety rules are being followed properly.

The CBI is probing the coaching accident

Describing the application as frivolous, the Supreme Court ordered the association to pay Rs. 1 lakh as fine and dismissed the appeal of the petitioner. It was said that no coaching center can be allowed to run unless fire safety norms as well as other requirements are complied with.

Later, the High Court ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the death of the three students who died in the coaching center accident instead of the Delhi Police, so that there is no doubt about the investigation.

After the accident, students studying at various coaching centers staged continuous demonstrations demanding better security. Action was taken by the Corporation and ban on illegal use of basement was also imposed on many coaching centres.
