Teachers and students going to school by boat in Bhagalpur.

In order to teach children, teachers have to be sailors first. They have to hold the helm before they can hold the chalk and pen. Such is the condition of two schools in Bhagalpur district of Bihar. Teachers and students here cross the river to go to school. A boat is the only means of crossing the river. The teacher himself becomes the sailor to take this boat to the shore. Along with them, students also have to cross the river by boat to go to school. In this perilous journey he keeps chanting the name of God.

This case is from Sabour block of Bhagalpur district. The road to reach the government school here is full of struggle and danger. The teachers themselves become the captains of this difficult journey and the children also travel with them. This is the reality of such pages in the book of developing Bihar, which no one, be it the government or the administration, wants to read. Surprisingly, this is the situation in MP’s home constituency Ghogha.

One kilometer away has to go by boat

Here teachers and students have to go to school by chanting God’s name every day. Here the school teachers have to go to school by boat and the boat is not steered by the sailor but by the teachers. There is a large boat to cross the river, which is difficult to navigate with a single sailor. In such a situation teachers have to take the helm. Groups of teachers from different areas arrive at the brick kiln on Gol Road in Ghoghana. They all board a boat here and cover a distance of about one kilometer.

Teachers steer the boat

Seated at the back, two teachers row the boat while steering the boat. Teachers as well as children travel by boat to reach school without any protection or life jackets. The teacher says that when the weather is bad, with rain and strong winds, it looks like the boat will capsize. He urges the government to build a bridge over the river.

If the bridge is built, the problem will be solved

The teachers and children of Ganga Par Higher Secondary School and Middle School Athgama have to struggle a lot before going to school. Teachers have to register their attendance online and hence leave early. A bridge has been needed here for years to facilitate school children, local people, farmers and teachers going from Ghogha Ne.ha to Athgama village, Pannu Chak Diara and Shankarpur Diara. But neither anyone comes to see this problem nor the government and administration are taking any initiative to get information about it.
