Disaster By Fire, Current And Now Water…many Deaths; When Will The Negligence Of Coaching Centers In Delhi Stop?

Students come far from their homes and cities to the national capital Delhi to prepare for competitive exams. Many students who prepare in Delhi with hard work and dedication get selected in UPSC, State PCS and One Day Exams. Thousands of students going to Delhi every year need guidance in this preparation. In such a situation, students with choice and dreams of a better future take admission for competitive exams with great enthusiasm in reputed and popular coaching institutes. Students’ families have to pay lakhs of rupees for admission in these coaching institutes.

The reason behind the fees of lakhs is the logic of good facilities from the coaching institutes, but the huge negligence happening one after the other in the coaching institutes of Delhi is raising many questions. Be it the case of sudden water intrusion in old Rajendra Nagar coaching institute or the fire in Mukherjee Nagar coaching institute, who is really responsible for both the situations? How long will the students who dream of being a part of the system continue to suffer the consequences of this negligence?

10 minutes of rain fills the water

After 10 minutes of heavy rain in Delhi, roads are flooded. Both Mukherjee Nagar and Old Rajendra Nagar are crowded with children preparing. Ignoring the disorders in such a situation becomes fatal. On June 15, 2023, news of a fire at the coaching center building in Mukherjee Nagar was reported. Less than a year after this incident, another big tragedy happened. Three students were victims of the heavy flow of water in the coaching basement of old Rajendra Nagar.

Where were the students from?

Two girls and a boy were among the students who died in the old Rajendra Nagar coaching accident. There is also 25-year-old Tanya Soni from Telangana and Tanya from Ambedkar Nagar in UP. Nevin Dalvin, a student from Kerala, was preparing for UPSC along with his PhD from JNU.

Library in the basement

Every year during rains waterlogging occurs in front of the coaching centre. Coaching institutes offer a temporary solution to this permanent problem. 80 percent of coaching in old Rajendra Nagar takes place in the basement of the library. Even MCD has not taken any action on this.

Where did the mistake happen?

The basement library where the students studied had only one gate for entry and exit. According to the fire department, NOC was given to the coaching center building by the fire department. Only parking was permitted in the basement. Here the library was being run without permission.

Two people arrested

The Delhi Police has arrested the owner and manager of the coaching center in connection with the death of three students in Old Rajendra Nagar Coaching Centre. After this incident, there is a lot of anger among all the students who are preparing. Students are protesting against the negligence of coaching institutes.

The student died due to electric shock

On July 22, a student preparing for UPSC died due to electrocution near Patel Nagar. The student was the sole support of his parents. The electrocuted student Nilesh was 26 years old. Failure of coaching center and system is proving fatal for students.

The Delhi High Court took note of it

In the month of April, the Delhi High Court had directed to declare the total number of all coaching institutes under MCD. After the Mukherjee Nagar coaching tragedy, on the orders of the High Court, action was taken against coaching institutes that did not follow the legal norms.
