The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is probing several cases like coal smuggling, cow smuggling, including financial irregularities in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, is expected to increase its activity. Satyabrata Kumar has been appointed as the eastern zone head of ED in Kolkata. He is a 2004 batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer. The ED is currently investigating several sensitive and high-profile cases in the state, including the RG Kar Hospital money laundering case and other cases related to alleged corruption involving politicians.
According to information received, Satyabrat Kumar was till now working as Special Director, Western Zone of Enforcement Directorate in Mumbai. He has investigated cases like Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi, Vijay Mallya and Mahadev online fraud.
TMC leaders have been arrested in many cases including coal smuggling, teacher recruitment scam. Although many have been granted bail in these cases, the ED investigation is likely to speed up after the appointment of a new chief.
