Uproar in Delhi MCD Standing Committee Elections
Voting is going on for the election of Standing Committee in Delhi Municipal Corporation. This is the first time in the history of MCD that Aam Aadmi Party and Congress are not participating in this election. This election is being held without AAP and Congress councillors.
The election is being held under the chairmanship of MCD Additional Commissioner IAS officer Jitendra Yadav, who has appointed the Commissioner as the presiding officer in the absence of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor. BJP has made Sundar Singh, who left Aam Aadmi Party, its candidate for MCD Standing Committee member election. At the same time, the Aam Aadmi Party fielded Nirmala Kumari as its candidate.
However, the Aam Aadmi Party is not participating in the elections, calling it illegal. Aam Aadmi Party and Mayor can go to court against election. Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Delhi are also absent from the House. Returning Officer IAS officer Jitendra Yadav is conducting the election.
The Corporation Secretary informed the House that the nominations of Sundar Singh and Nirmala Kumari have been received for the election of the Standing Committee. Both nominations are valid. If one wants to withdraw his name he can withdraw his name. A total time of two and a half hours has been fixed for the election.
Today’s elections are unconstitutional and illegal – AAP
The Aam Aadmi Party has already announced that it will not contest the standing committee members elections to be held in MCD today. The mayor said that the election to be held today is unconstitutional and illegal. The Mayor has written a letter to the Commissioner regarding this. Mayoral election will be held on October 5. AAP will consider going to court if elections are held today.
