Former Judges And Bureaucrats Expressed Concern Over The Kolkata Rape-murder Case, Raising Many Questions On The Mamata Government As Well.

Around three hundred judges, former bureaucrats, senior officers and ex-military officers said in a joint statement that the rape and murder of the trainee doctor is a reminder of the deteriorating socio-cultural scenario in West Bengal and the grave threats faced by women. He said that such incidents exposed the lack of responsibility of the government.

Questions have been raised on the government’s action

He questioned the state government’s handling of the incident and said that initially it was called suicide. The victim’s parents had to wait for hours. There was such carelessness in this matter that within twenty four hours the construction was started just twenty meters away from the crime scene. Along with this, he demanded that decisive steps should be taken in this matter at the earliest, so that the safety of the health workers can be assured.

Security of doctors should be increased

The statement, signed by over three hundred intellectuals, called for concrete measures to be taken to protect women of all castes and religions. Patrolling and security personnel should be increased for the safety of doctors. Also there should be separate washrooms for male and female doctors. Emergency and SOS should be arranged in the doctor’s room. The behavior of the administrative heads of organizations should also be comprehensively investigated.

Questions were also raised on election violence

Not only this, it was also said by famous personalities that this is not an isolated incident in West Bengal. For the last several years, there has been constant violence in several sections here. He also raised many questions about the violence that took place during the elections. Along with this, raising many questions on the law and order of the state, he said that there is a need for introspection and immediate reform on this issue.
