Attempted conversion for dowry

An attempt was made to convert a Hindu woman for dowry in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. When the accused did not get the dowry, he started beating her. In fact, Honey Chaudhary, a resident of Ijjatnagar Police Station, Bareilly, has alleged that she had a love marriage with Mustaq’s son Hazrat Ali, who lives in Basant Vihar Colony, and that Honey and Hazrat Ali moved to Canada on 19 December 2020, almost a year after their marriage.

When the two came to Bareilly after spending a few years in Canada, Hazrat Ali’s family started demanding a dowry of Rs 1 crore from Honey. When his dowry demand was not met, he started beating the woman. Even after the beating, when the talk did not go ahead, the dowry seekers started threatening her to force her to convert. When Honey protested too much, father-in-law Mustaq Ali, Nand Ali, along with mother tried to strangle the woman with her dupatta. The woman somehow escaped from the house, but she did not want to let her house be destroyed, so she went to her father-in-law. The in-laws say that if you want to live in their house, you have to pay a dowry of one crore rupees and convert. It is alleged that the husband lives with another woman in Canada.

My husband used to beat me by locking me in the room

It is alleged that when he returned to his in-laws from Canada, he locked him in a room and beat him. The accused demanded Rs 1 crore from the woman and asked her to change her religion. When the woman categorically refused, they took away her jewelry and clothes and threw her out of the house. The woman has filed a complaint against the accused in the Ijjatnagar police station.

Forced to stumble from house to house

The woman alleged that ever since she was evicted from her in-laws’ house, she has been wandering here and there as her parents also do not support her. Because the woman has married a person of other religion and her parents were against this even at the time of marriage. The woman says she wants justice, action should be taken against all soon.

In this whole matter, Ayodhya Nagar Police Station says that on the basis of the woman’s complaint, a crime of benefit has been registered against the husband and his in-laws and the entire matter is being investigated. The woman has been sent for medical examination.
