IND Vs BAN: Only Way To Win Kanpur Test Now, Ashwin-Jadeja Must Finish Unfinished Business

The Indian cricket team has built hopes and prospects of winning the Kanpur Test which seems to be heading for a draw after batting just 35 overs. In this second match of the Test series against Bangladesh, almost 8 sessions i.e. two and a half days of play was completely ruined due to rain and wet pitch. After just 35 overs on the first day, the game was finally completed on the fourth day and Team India made the match interesting by quickly wrapping up Bangladesh’s innings with their brilliant bowling and then aggressive batting. Team India now has a chance to win but the trouble is that Tuesday is the last day of the match. So, is there enough time to achieve victory? How can victory be achieved in just one day? This is possible but it will require Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja to complete the work left unfinished 3 years ago.

Only one way to win in Kanpur

Cricket action returned to Green Park Stadium on Monday i.e. 30th September on the fourth day of the match. Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammad Siraj combined did not allow the Bangladeshi team to reach a big score. Former captain Mominul Haq scored a brilliant century and remained unbeaten on 107 runs but the rest of the batsmen could not support him. Bangladesh’s first innings ended in 233 runs. After this, Rohit Sharma and Yashshwi Jaiswal got off to a great start and took Team India to a 50-run lead in just 3 overs and the explosive batting continued till the 35th over, where India declared on 285 runs.

After getting a lead of 52 runs, Team India also took 2 wickets of Bangladesh till the stumps. On the fifth day, the Bangladesh team will start with a score of 26 runs and the game is expected to be around 98 overs. That means Team India has a chance to win. But will it be that simple? It is clear that there is only one way to do this – Bangladesh must be bowled out as early as possible in the second innings and then achieve whatever the target is. This means only one thing – Team India’s bowlers will have to show their strength and most of the focus will be on Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin, who have proved vital in this series.

Ashwin-Jadeja was missed 3 years ago

Obviously, Bumrah’s spell with the ball still looking fresh will be important in the morning session but in real terms, this is an important opportunity for Ashwin and Jadeja. Although the pitch is not as broken as it was on day five, there was a lot of twist on Monday. In such a situation the role of both the spinners becomes important. Either way, this is a good chance for Ashwin and Jadeja to finish the unfinished business. Three years ago, the two stalwarts could not complete a single task and victory slipped from Team India’s hands.

Also in November 2021, a Test match was played in Kanpur which lasted for 5 days. Team India was very close to winning that match but New Zealand put the last wicket at the crease and faced 52 consecutive balls without losing a wicket. Ashwin and Jadeja bowled several overs in succession but these two legends could not even dismiss Ejaz Patel and Rachin Ravindra. Eventually the win slipped out of Team India’s hands and they were forced to settle for a draw. Not only the fans are worried about this but these two great players will also be worried about this and they will not want a repeat of it against Bangladesh.
