The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced the important rules regarding the mega auction of IPL 2025 and the next season. The board announced this after the IPL Governing Council meeting on Saturday, September 28. As expected, the number of players retained this time has been increased from 4 to 6, which was demanded by most of the franchises. Apart from this, purse auctions have also increased this time around, while match fee payments have also started for the first time. Not only this, the board has also announced strict action against players who, despite being sold in the auction, withdraw their names before the start of the season. Such players will be banned from participating in the tournament.

What are the big rules of IPL 2025 season?

1. All franchises will now be able to retain a total of 6 players from their existing squad. Of these, only 5 players (Indian and Foreign) can be capped, while a maximum of 2 players can be uncapped.
2. Also, it will depend on the franchise how they want to retain those 6 players. If the franchise wants, it can retain all 6 players directly or opt for the ‘Right to Match’ (RTM) option in the mega auction. Or you can keep some and buy the rest with Right to Match.
3. A match fee has been introduced for the first time, under which each player in the playing XI (including impact players) will get Rs 7.5 lakh for playing a match. For this, the franchisee will have to set aside Rs 12.60 crore every year, which will be separate from the auction purse.
4. The auction purse has been increased from Rs 100 crore to Rs 120 crore. At the same time, the total salary cap (auction purse and incremental performance pay) is now Rs. 110 crore to Rs. 146 crore has been reached. Out of this Rs. 120 crore will be the auction purse while Rs. 12.60 crore as match fee and the rest as additional performance pay. This salary cap will increase to 151 crore rupees in 2026 and 157 crore rupees in 2027.
5. Despite all the controversies, the BCCI has decided to retain the impact player rule. This will continue not only in the next season but also till the 2027 season.
6. Also, strict action is being taken against foreign players who only come in mini auctions in an attempt to earn more money. Under the new rule, foreign players will also have to register for the mega auction. If he does not do so, he will not get a place in next season’s mini auction.
7. Apart from this, the BCCI has also acted on the biggest complaint of the franchise owners and that is the withdrawal of players’ names before the season. The BCCI has made it clear that if any player withdraws his name before the start of the season after being bought in the auction, he will be banned from participating in the auction as well as the tournament for the next two seasons.
8. At the same time, if a capped Indian player (who has played or is playing international cricket) has not been part of the playing eleven of any format in international cricket in the last 5 years or is not part of the central contract of BCCI. , then he will be considered an uncapped player.
