IPL 2025 Rules: BCCI Tightens Grip On Foreign Players, 2-year Ban If They Do So In IPL

The owners of the IPL teams have been very upset with the antics of the players for some time now. He also complained to the IPL Governing Council for this. In fact, many players were sold in the auction and had their rights taken back after being selected in the tournament. Some players withdraw their names mid-tournament. Such cases were mostly seen with foreign players. IPL 2024 saw the highest number of cases, when many players returned home due to the T20 World Cup. Now BCCI has heard this problem. The board has tried to prevent and crack down on such cases by introducing some strict rules ahead of IPL 2025.

The traps will tighten on the players

All the fans including the franchises were eagerly waiting for the IPL 2025 rules. The IPL’s governing council met in Bengaluru on Saturday 28 September and approved the new rules. The governing council has issued several rules for the mega auction including player retention, auction purse. Meanwhile, a strict decision has also been taken.

According to the new rule, if a player registers in the Player Auction and withdraws his name before the start of the season after selection, he will be banned for 2 years. He will not be able to participate in tournaments for 2 years and will also not be able to register for player auctions.

There is a special rule for foreign players

The governing council of IPL has come up with another special rule for foreign players. The council said that henceforth it will be mandatory for foreign players to register in the mega auction to enter the player auction. If this is not done, the player will not be eligible for auction in the coming season.

Big Rules of IPL 2025

All eyes were on the retention policy for IPL 2025, which has now been announced. All the franchises are allowed to retain a total of 6 players from their existing squad before the mega auction. For this they have been given many options like right to match, capped player category, uncapped player category along with Indian and foreign players. It will depend on the franchise how they want to retain the 6 players. Apart from this, there was a lot of controversy regarding the impact player rule. But it has been retained till 2027.

The uncapped player rule is back in IPL 2025, under which Chennai Super Kings wanted to retain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. It was abolished in 2021. On the other hand, the auction purse has been increased from Rs 100 crore to Rs 120 crore. The total salary limit has now increased from Rs 110 crore to Rs 146 crore. Apart from this, a match fee has been introduced for the first time, under which each player in the playing XI (as well as impact players) will get Rs 7.5 lakh for playing a match.
