Jammu And Kashmir Assembly Elections: Election Commission Team Reaches Srinagar To Review Preparations

The Election Commission team has reached there on Wednesday on a 3-day visit to review the preparations for the Jammu and Kashmir elections. The team is headed by Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar. The Election Commission team will review the preparations for the assembly elections. Along with this he will also talk to the political parties and take their opinion.

The Rajiv Kumar-led team will meet representatives of political parties at SKICC (Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre). The Election Commission of Jammu and Kashmir office invited political parties for a meeting with the ECI. Commission officials said that representatives of various political parties including National Conference, PDP, BJP and Congress have been called for the meeting. Each is given a time slot.

District wise meeting will be held

Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar is accompanied by Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and SS Sandhu. The commission will meet with the election officers of all the districts. Apart from this, preparations will also be reviewed with Superintendent of Police, Chief Secretary and Director General of Police.

There will also be a meeting with the ED

The ECI team will hold a meeting with the implementing agencies on the 10th, the last day of the 3-day visit. On the same day, a press conference will be organized in Jammu and the review information will be shared in the media. The Supreme Court has given September 30 as the deadline for elections in the union territory. Before that the Election Commission will review the preparations.

The delay was due to vacancies in the posts

Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar visited the union territory in March this year. He then said that elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir at the earliest. Till then 2 commissioner posts were vacant. Which was later filled after the announcement of Lok Sabha elections.

There was a record turnout in the Lok Sabha elections

During the Lok Sabha elections, there was a record voting in Jammu and Kashmir. At that time, Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar said, “This kind of participation in the elections is positive for the upcoming assembly elections”.
