Jammu And Kashmir: Engineer Rashid’s AIP Ties Up With Jamaat Candidates, Will Contest Assembly Polls Together


Former members of the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) and the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JEI) led by Lok Sabha MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid alias Engineer Rashid have joined forces for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. This alliance is considered very important in the state. According to an AIP statement, a joint meeting between the two parties was held on Sunday, September 15, after which the decision was taken.

In this joint meeting, the AIP delegation was led by AIP chief spokesperson Inam Un Nabi, while the delegation of former JEI members was led by Ghulam Qadir Wani. Meanwhile, there was a discussion about the elections to be held in Jammu and Kashmir. After which consensus was reached on the alliance.

Consensus on working in public interest

Giving the information, Awami Ittehad Party spokesperson said that both the parties have agreed to work together in the interest of the people of the area. He said that the aim of this alliance is to achieve a massive victory for the AIP and JEI backed candidates to ensure that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have strong representatives who can express their feelings and aspirations.

He said that after extensive discussions between the two parties in the meeting, it was agreed that AIP would support and support JEI backed candidates in Kulgam and Pulwama. While former JEI members will support AIP candidates in elections across Kashmir.

He said the alliance agreed to ‘friendly competition’ in constituencies where former AIP and JEI members are contesting, especially in constituencies like Langat, Deosar and Jainapora where candidates from both parties are in the fray. The spokesperson said that mutual assistance will be extended for elections in other constituencies. In the meeting, both sides emphasized on resolving the Kashmir issue and promoting peace in the region.

Many leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami are contesting elections

Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir was banned by the Union Home Ministry in the year 2019. The ban was extended for 5 years in February this year. Many big leaders of Jamaat have contested assembly elections as independent candidates. These days all the leaders are engaged in vigorous election campaigning. This alliance between the two parties ahead of the elections could add to the trouble for all the political parties.

Voting will be done in 3 phases

Voting is going to be held in three phases in Jammu and Kashmir. All eyes are on this election to be held after 10 years. Along with the political parties, the people of the state are also very excited. These elections, which will be held after the removal of Article 370, are also considered very important for the BJP. Congress and National Conference are contesting together in this election. The first phase of voting for the 90-member Jammu and Kashmir Assembly will be held on September 18, the second phase on September 25 and the third phase on October 1. The result will be declared on 8th October.
