CM Mamata Banerjee closed the border between Jharkhand and West Bengal due to floods in the state. Following this, both the borders were closed for 24 hours, facing a lot of trouble for the movement of trucks, in view of which the officials informed on Saturday that the border will now be reopened for the movement of trucks for inter-state trade.
Water levels rose in some areas of West Bengal, prompting CM Mamata Banerjee to allege that water has been released from Jharkhand due to which her state is facing floods. Due to which CM Mamata Banerjee closed the border of West Bengal and Jharkhand for three days, after which the closed border has been opened for the movement of trucks for 24 hours.
Long lines of trucks
The inter-state border has been opened and thousands of trucks loaded with goods stranded on NH-2 and NH-6 have left for West Bengal, a Jharkhand government official said. Due to the closure of the border, 20-25 km long queues of trucks were formed on the highway. Thousands of trucks were stranded due to the border closure, including trucks carrying destroyed goods from northern states.
Why was the border closed?
Some areas of West Bengal are currently facing floods, due to which CM Mamata Banerjee said, the floods are not due to rains but are man-made calamities. Water was released from Jharkhand causing floods in West Bengal.
Apart from this, his government also accused the DVC and said that it would also sever ties with the DVC. When CM Mamata accused the DVC, a DVC official in her defense said that the water was released on the directives of the New Delhi-based Central Water Commission (CWC), but has now been stopped.
attacked the Jharkhand government
After CM Mamata Banerjee accused Jharkhand and ordered to close the border, the Jharkhand government came down heavily on Mamata for closing the inter-state border. JMM General Secretary and Central Spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya said that Mamata Banerjee’s decision to close the borders will weigh heavily on her, if Jharkhand closes its borders, West Bengal will be cut off from the western, northern and southern parts of India. He further said, I request Didi to take a sensitive attitude, goods carrying vehicles are not responsible for flooding in your state.
