Major Action Against Fake Food Suppliers In Punjab, License Cancellation Of 2 Food Companies

The agriculture department has intensified the quality control campaign. A target of testing 4700 food samples has been set under this campaign. This campaign is being conducted as per the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. A drive has been launched to ensure that the farmers of the state have access to high quality agricultural items and equipment. Under this, the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department of Punjab has canceled the licenses of 2 food companies during checking.

The companies whose licenses have been revoked include M/s Madhya Bharat Agro Products Limited and M/s Krishna Fosham Pvt. Punjab Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian said that the DAP supplied by these companies to Markfed. 40 samples are taken from the stock. As per Food Control Order 1985, 24 of these samples were found to be non-standard and the report of two samples is pending.

He said that the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India has also been informed for appropriate further action in this regard. Director Agriculture and Farmer Kalyan Jaswant Singh said that under the quality control drive so far 1004 food samples have been taken and sent to various laboratories for testing.

The Agriculture Minister asked the Director of the Department to review the supply of agricultural inputs so as to ensure supply of standard products to the farmers. The Director, Agriculture further said that along with regular sampling of food as per the set targets in the districts, the flow of DAP (18:46) and other food items is also being continuously monitored.

Gurmeet Singh has instructed all Chief District Agriculture Officers that if they receive any complaint regarding sub-standard/fake food or any other agricultural produce, they should ensure proactive action. He warned that negligence in this regard will not be tolerated at any level.
