Michigan football was under investigation last season for a sign-stealing scandal that resulted in a 3-game suspension for John Harbaugh from the Big Ten. However, it might not be quite over as the Wolverine program could be in trouble still.

A notice of allegations, which was obtained by ESPN’s Dan Murphy and Pete Thamel, indicates that Michigan’s new head coach, Sherrone Moore, could be facing additional penalties for his involvement in the scandal.

“The draft, which could be subject to change, states Moore could face a show-cause penalty and possibly a suspension for allegedly deleting a thread of 52 text messages with former Michigan staffer Connor Stalions in October 2023 on the same day that media reports revealed Stalions was leading an effort to capture the playcalling signals of future opponents,” Murphy and Thamel wrote.

Per the report, Moore is looking at a Level 2 violation as the texts were eventually recovered. The program is also looking at a Level 1 charge due to its work to prevent an investigation into the situation. Many of the other key coaches in this investigation like Connor Stalions, Chris Partridge, and Denard Robinson are no longer with the program either.

Unlike the Buckeyes, who don’t have many pivotal, early-season games, the Wolverines do, taking on Texas, one of the best programs in the country, on September 7, a premier Week 2 game. If Moore is suspended for that, it could be problematic for the Wolverines.

We’ll have to let this all play out of course, especially as the official notive of allegations is dropped on the doorstep in Ann Arbor.
