‘Missing Ladies’ hit the theaters 3 months ago. People praised the film a lot. However, the film did not earn much at the box office. It did a business of only 20 crore rupees at the Indian box office. But when the film hit OTT, it broke the records of many films. He paid Ranbir Kapoor’s Rs. 1000 crore grosser ‘Aminal’ also left behind in views and made its place at the top. Now Kiran Rao spoke about the film’s flop and held himself responsible for it.

This is Kiran Rao’s second film. His first film was ‘Dhobi Ghat’ in the year 2010. His film was also a flop. The film earned only 27.26 crores. Now, comparing ‘Lapata Ladies’ with his own film, he said that both his films ‘Dhobi Ghat’ and ‘Lapata Ladies’ did not do well at the box office. He said that ‘Dhobi Ghat’ also earned some good income in its time. But ‘Lapta Ladies’ didn’t perform as well as ‘Dhobighat’, so I think it’s a failure.”

“Audience not found”

Kiran Rao feels that his film was not a box office success. He said, “We have not done a business of Rs 100 crore. Neither he could earn 30-40 or even 50 crore rupees. I hold myself responsible for this film not working. I also considered myself more responsible for ‘Dhobighat’, as we had no alternative platform at that time. There was no OTT platform. At that time we did not get much audience.

Kiran also said that she felt like a failure everyday. She said, “I have been working continuously for the last 10 years and have been busy for a long time. After the first film, I felt that the second film will also come soon. But this did not happen. I used to work everyday. So I guess this is my daily fail. I think when creative people are unable to achieve something in a short amount of time, they start to feel like a failure.”
