Modern Fish Market Ready In Ghalauri, Patiala… Cabinet Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian Announced

Cabinet Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian presided over a meeting with officials of Fisheries Department and Punjab Mandi Board at his office. He said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has completed the construction of a state-of-the-art fish market on five acres of land in Ghalauri at a cost of Rs 4.13 crore. Equipped with modern facilities, this market provides all the services required for fish farmers and traders at one place.

He directed the officials to speed up the allotment process for optimal utilization of retail shops in Patiala Fish Market. Along with this, he also asked for speedy completion of the process of allotment of shops in fish markets of Bathinda and Amritsar.

The cabinet minister in Kilianwali village has paid Rs. Also reviewed the progress of other ongoing projects including Government Fish Poong Farm constructed at a cost of Rs.10.10 crore. He directed the officials of the department to take additional steps to further increase the production from government fish poong farms and improve distribution services.

Additional Secretary Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Alok Shekhar told the Cabinet Minister that during the financial year 2023-24, fish farming was started in 43,972 acres and prawn farming in 1,315 acres, resulting in 1,81,188 tonnes of fish and fish products. 2,793 tonnes of shrimp were produced. He said, 13.90 crore fish seeds were made available from government fish seed farms and more than 10,000 persons were given free training on fish farming business.

Punjab Mandi Board Secretary Miss Neelima, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Department Joint Secretary Bikramjit Singh Shergill, Fisheries Director Jasvir Singh, Assistant Director Fisheries Satinder Kaur and other employees of the Fisheries Department were also present in the meeting.
