Referring to the incident of Shivaji Maharaj’s statue falling, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that if stainless steel had been used in making the statue, the statue would never have fallen. The Union Minister suggested that stainless steel should be used in the construction of infrastructure in coastal areas to protect it from corrosion.

Addressing an event at FICCI on Tuesday, September 3, he said that for the last three years I have been insisting that stainless steel should be used in the construction of bridges near the sea. To mention an incident, when I was a minister of state in the Maharashtra government, the construction of 55 flyovers was going on in Mumbai. One guy fooled me into thinking that powdering the iron rods would keep them from rusting, but within a few days they started rusting too. Since then I feel that any construction within a 30 km radius of the coastal area should use stainless steel.

Meanwhile, he said that if Shivaji’s statue was made of stainless steel, it would not have fallen 100 percent.

The statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj fell last month i.e. on August 26 in Malvan, Sindhudurg, Maharashtra. This statue of Shivaji Maharaj was 35 feet tall. Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled it 8 months ago i.e. on December 4 last year. After the demolition of this statue, there has been a political uproar in Maharashtra. Recently, while addressing a public meeting in Palghar, PM Modi also apologized for this.
