It has happened again, everyone. Oregon just went into USC’s back yard and grabbed a top-quality offensive line recruit from the Trojans. Kodi Greene of Mater Dei High School committed to Dan Lanning on Monday afternoon, just the latest display of Oregon’s recruiting strength in Southern California, with USC and Lincoln Riley watching the Ducks stack their future class, in this case for 2026. This storyline is getting tiresome for USC football and its fans, but the reality is that right now — in the summer of 2024 — Oregon is simply a hotter football brand with more of a chance to win a national championship than USC. The Trojans might turn this dynamic around, but they’re not going to do it instantly. Here are more details on Greene’s commitment to Oregon:

Every time Lincoln Riley gets beaten by Dan Lanning and Oregon for a top recruit at a position of need, the pressure to turn around the program in 2024 grows even more. If USC can succeed in the 2024 season, it might be able to flip a number of recruits who have chosen other schools. The need to change the narrative at USC this year has become more urgent after yet another loss to the Ducks and Phil Knight.
