Due to torrential rains, the situation has turned from bad to worse in many parts of capital Delhi. Three students tragically died due to flooding in the basement of the coaching center in Old Rajinder Nagar. Two days after this incident, a major tragedy also took place in East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar Phase 3. Here a mother and her child died after falling into an open drain. Now a Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the Delhi High Court regarding this accident. The petition filed in the High Court will be heard on August 5.
The petition filed in the court has sought action against the guilty contractor. Apart from this, the petition has also demanded an audit of all ongoing sewerage construction including flood prevention measures. The PIL has also sought to hold the contractor responsible for the accident and provide adequate compensation to the victim’s family.
How did this tragic accident happen?
This incident happened last Wednesday i.e. 31st July. A drain in Mayur Vihar Phase-III in Delhi’s Yamuna Crossing area was flooded due to heavy rains. That drain was open. Meanwhile, a two-and-a-half-year-old child fell into the drain. When her mother went to save her, she also drowned in that stream. Both died in this incident. Anarchy spread in the area.
Question on continuous accidents
Earlier on July 27, three students tragically died due to a flash flood in the basement of the IAS Coaching Center in Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar. A lot of anger is being seen among the competing students regarding this incident. Investigation and hearing in this matter is going on in the court. Now questions are being raised about the death of mother and son due to drowning in the canal in Mayur Vihar.
