A case of suspicious death of an undertrial prisoner has come to light in Purnia, Bihar. The deceased prisoner was lodged in Araria Jail for the last 5 years in a murder case. The deceased has been identified as 23-year-old Vivek Kumar alias Lal Yadav. The prisoner was being taken back to Mandal Jail after being produced in the Supaul Civil Court. The family members have accused the friends of killing Vivek by poisoning them in a cold drink. At the same time, after this case, the custody of the Araria Jail police has started to be questioned.
Dr. Vinod Kumar, brother-in-law of the deceased, said about the incident – Vivek was serving sentence in Araria Mandal Jail for the last 5 years in the case of murder. He was to be released soon. Vivek was taken from Mandal Jail to Supaul Civil Court for production on Wednesday. After the hearing, some friends came to meet him and they served him a cold drink.
He alleges that friends mixed poison in this cold drink. After drinking it, his health started to deteriorate. Seeing this, instead of bringing the prisoner, the jail police team took him to GMCH Purnia for treatment, where he died during treatment. Then the jail police informed those people about this. Vivek had already died by the time the family reached after getting the information. The deceased’s brother-in-law said that Vivek’s father Shiv Kumar Yadav died last September due to illness. Father was the former head of Supaul’s Saraigad Bhaktihi block.

Family members said that Law was also present along with Vivek when they were going to appear in court. Meanwhile, they also took photos and videos of Vivek. Vivek was completely healthy. After the prisoner’s death, a 4-second video of him has also surfaced, in which he is sitting in a police van and drinking a cold drink. Family members said that while Vivek was being taken to Supaul in police custody, some of his friends gave him a cold drink to drink. It is alleged that he was killed by mixing poison in the cold drink itself.
At present, the postmortem of the dead body is being conducted under the supervision of the Magistrate. The officials present at the scene clearly refused to say anything in this matter.
