The city of Ajmer in Rajasthan is surrounded by the hills of the Aravalli range. Ajmer itself has a magnificent temple dedicated to the clan goddess of a brave warrior Prithviraj Chauhan. This temple belongs to Chamunda Mata, situated at a very high altitude. A large number of devotees come here throughout the year to have darshan of Mother. The magnificence of the temple is worth seeing during Navratri. A fair-like atmosphere is seen here during the nine days of Navratri. The fair of Chamunda Mata, the clan goddess of the last Hindu emperor Prithviraj Chauhan, is being celebrated today with great pomp. Temple priest Madan Singh Rawat said that this fair is celebrated on Ashtami of Sawan month. A day before this, a Mata vigil is held in the night, in which bhajan congregations from the city and far away come here to perform bhajans.

Maha Aarti of Mother is performed in the morning after the whole night vigil. Thousands of devotees come to the fair. Aarti of Mother is performed in the temple every morning, afternoon and evening. Mata Jyoti is circulated in the temple premises with spears, swords and drums. Devotees accompanied by committee members participate in the aarti of Mother.

They used to come to worship before the war

The temple of Chamunda Mata was built by the last Hindu emperor Prithviraj Chauhan in the year 1160. Chamunda Mata was the clan goddess of Prithviraj Chauhan. It is said that Prithviraj Chauhan used to come to Mata’s temple before going to war, where he would offer special worship to Mata. The battle of Tarain took place between Prithviraj Chauhan and Muhammad Gowri.

At a height of about four hundred feet from Boraj village on the Faisagar road, there is a temple of Mata. A road has been constructed to reach the temple. A ramp with stairs has also been constructed to reach the mother shrine from the arched door of the temple, through which the temple can be reached easily. There are also shrines of Mother Ganga, Lord Bholenath, Hanuman and Bhairav Baba in the temple premises. There is also a small water pond in the temple of Mata Ganga. This reservoir never gets empty. Locals say thousands of gallons of water have been pumped out of the lake, but it is not empty. There is no information about where the water in the lake is coming from.

Priests are elected every year

This temple is looked after by people of Rawat community living in Boraj village. According to the decision of the Panchayat of the Rawat Samaj, the priest of the temple is appointed every year, who belongs to the Rawat Samaj living in Boraj village. The temple is under the care of Chamunda Navayuvak Mandal of Borj village.
