Punjab: The Hon’ble Government Has Announced The Schedule For Releasing Water In Canals During The Kharif Season.

The Punjab government has taken a major decision to release water in the canals of the state in the Kharif season. Informing about this, the spokesperson of the Water Resources Department said that water will be released in the canals of the Sirhind Canal system from 21 to 28 August 2024. The government said that Sidhwan Branch, Bathinda Branch, Bist Doab Canal, Abohar Branch and Patiala Feeder will be operated on first, second, third, fourth and fifth priority basis.

A Water Resources Department spokesperson said that canals originating from Bhakra main line which are in Group ‘A’ will get full water on first priority basis, while Ghaggar Link and Ghaggar branch and PNCs originating from it, which are in Group ‘B’ will get the rest. Water will be available on second priority basis. He said that this program and system will greatly benefit the farmers of the state.

Decision to give water on priority basis

The water resources department also said that, similarly, all the Rajbahs originating from the Sirhind feeder, which are in Group ‘A’, will get full water on first priority basis, while the Abohar Branch Lower and its Rajbahs originating from the Sirhind feeder, which are in Group . Those in ‘A’, ‘B’ will get the remaining water on second priority basis.

Decision in the interest of agriculture in Punjab

He further said that Lahore branch and its Rajbaos will get full water on first priority basis. Main Branch Lower, Kasoor Branch Lower and Sabron Branch and their tributaries will get the remaining water respectively. This decision of the government is said to be in favor of agriculture and farming in Punjab.
