The festival of Janmashtami will be celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country on Monday. However, in Bhadras of Kanpur’s Ghatampur Police Station area, the festival is synonymous with ill feeling. The reason is that there is no idol of Radha Rani in the temple of Lord Krishna for 16 years. The Radha Rani idol has been kept in the police godown for so many years and no one hears about it.

On the occasion of Janmashtami, the devotees of Bhadras village are reminded of the Ashtadhatu idol of Radharani installed in the temple along with Lord Krishna. Although devotees have later installed another idol of Radha Rani along with Lord Sri Krishna in this temple, the ancient Ashtadhatu idol is still with the police. Due to which the hearts of the devotees remain sad. On occasions like Janmashtami and Radhashtami, this grief of the devotees increases even more. Bhadraras village has an ancient temple of Radhakrishna. The temple was stolen 16 years ago. Thieves stole the eight metal idol of Radharani installed in the temple and idols of other deities.

Celebrations remain dull

Devotees who come here on the occasion of Janmashtami say that they cannot forget the theft incident that happened 16 years ago. Due to which Radha Rani has been away from Lord Krishna for 16 years. Rajesh, the priest of the same temple says that Lord Ram’s exile was over in 14 years but Radha Rani is enjoying exile for 16 years. They say that if there is no idol of Radha Rani with Lord Krishna in the temple, their Janmashtami celebrations remain dull.

The idol of Sri Krishna could not be picked up again

Ghatampur police station in-charge Pradeep Kumar says that the temple priest Sarvankar should have filed an application in court and released the idol. Giving information about the incident of theft in the temple 16 years ago, he said that the thieves had stolen all the idols of the temple. The idol of Lord Krishna fell down near the temple a little far from the thieves. Which the thieves could not pick up again. He was reinstated in the temple. A stone idol of Radha Rani was installed nearby. Some devotees demanded that MLA Saroj Kuril restore the idol of Radha Rani in the temple. On which he has spoken to the police officials and said that efforts will be made soon.
