Ranking Oklahoma high school football’s best wide receivers in 2024 season


Some of the top prospects in Oklahoma high school football play the wide receiver position.

There are high expectations for a lot of those players following big seasons, and it won’t be long until they can go out and try to replicate that kind of success.

Here’s The Oklahoman‘s ranking of the state’s best running backs, from 10 to 1:

10. Xzavier Thompson, Sr., Millwood

He holds an offer from Arizona State and helped Millwood reach the Class 2A state title game the last two seasons. Last year, Thompson had 30 receptions for 639 yards and four touchdowns.

9. Lucas Jones, Sr., Yukon

Yukon struggled last season and went 1-9, but Jones had a great year individually and was one of the most productive receivers in the state. He finished with 82 receptions for 1,107 and nine touchdowns.

8. Juju Smith, Sr., Choctaw

Smith was one of Choctaw’s top offensive players last season. He had 60 receptions for 988 yards and 14 touchdowns.

7. CJ Simon, Sr., Tuttle

Simon was a consistent player for Moore last season and finished with 54 catches for 784 yards and 10 touchdowns and 35 carries for 262 yards and three scores. He recently announced he is transferring to Tuttle. Ranked No. 21 on The Oklahoman’s Super 30, Simon decommitted from Nebraska in February.

6. Ryan Grayson, Sr., Beggs

He had 1,457 total yards and 15 touchdowns last season. Also a stellar defensive back, Grayson has offers from Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Kansas State and UNLV.

6. Trynae Washington, Sr., Carl Albert

One of several standouts for Carl Albert, Washington had 897 receiving yards and eight touchdowns last year as he helped the Titans go 14-0 and win their second straight Class 5A state title and seventh out of the last eight seasons.

4. Matrail Lopez, Sr., Idabel

He announced his commitment to Oklahoma State in February. Last season, Lopez had 43 catches for 893 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also had 37 carries for 484 yards and nine scores.

3. Mason James, Jr., Norman North

He’s the state’s second-ranked prospect and a four-star recruit in his class, according to 247Sports Composite. James had a strong sophomore season, catching 61 passes for 1,021 yards and 12 touchdowns and running for 194 yards and five scores on 28 carries.

2. Trystan Haynes, Sr., Carl Albert

The OU commit is No. 1 on The Oklahoman’s Super 30 list of the state’s top recruits in the 2025 class. Haynes is a key player for the Titans as a receiver, defensive back and returner. On offense last season, he had 1,007 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns.

1. Elijah Thomas, Sr., Checotah

An OU commit and four-star prospect according to 247Sports, Thomas had an impressive junior year. Along with his contributions as a defensive back and returner, he had a great season on offense, finishing with 55 receptions for 1,197 yards and 15 touchdowns and 19 carries for 124 yards and five scores. He also threw two touchdown passes.
