Investigation agency Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday produced Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan in a Delhi court in a money laundering case, where he was requested to be sent to 10-day custody. The Rouse Avenue Court has reserved its decision on the remand of MLA Amanatullah for now.

The ED produced Amanatullah Khan before special judge Rakesh Syal and requested him to be sent to 10-day custody. During the hearing, the investigating agency said there is a need for a face-to-face confrontation between Amanatullah Khan and other accused related to the case. ED has arrested Amanatullah in a money laundering case related to financial irregularities in the Waqf Board. However, Amanatullah’s lawyer Vikram Chaudhary has opposed the court’s demand to send him to 10-day custody.

MLA arrested after house search

However, Amanatullah’s lawyer challenged his arrest in the case. The agency arrested Amanatullah Khan under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) after conducting a search at his house in Okhla area of national capital Delhi this morning.

The ED told the court that Amanatullah was asked some questions during the search, but he refused to answer. Due to which he had to be arrested. The ED also said that Amanatullah is the prime accused in the entire case. The agency said the first chargesheet in the case was filed on January 9 this year. He is the main conspirator in the whole affair. Even after being summoned, he did not appear before the investigating agency.

ED accused of non-cooperation in investigation

In the court’s understanding, the ED asked that Amanatullah be remanded for 10 days for further investigation in the case. “Proceeds of crime were used to purchase assets and launder money,” the federal agency said. Cash has also been used. In this case, an attempt was made to mislead the investigating agency. Accusing Amanatullah Khan of non-cooperation, the agency said he was issued 14 summons and appeared only once after the Supreme Court’s direction.

ED also said that we have arrested Amanatullah under Section 19 of PMLA. He was not cooperating with the investigation. When we asked him where his phone is, he said I don’t have it.
