RG Car Case: CBI Starts Investigation, Accused Sanjay Roy Is Being Medically Tested; The Agency Will Seek Custody

Following the Calcutta High Court’s order, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has started an investigation into the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in a government hospital in West Bengal. The CBI team has reached Kolkata today. The CBI has taken Sanjay Roy, the accused arrested in the case, to Kolkata’s Command Hospital for medical examination.

Earlier, the Kolkata Police handed over Sanjay Roy, who was arrested in the case, to the CBI at the CGO complex after undergoing a medical test at the government-run SSKM Hospital. Two CBI investigating officers reached Tala Police Station yesterday evening Tuesday and took all the documents related to the investigation from the Kolkata Police.

Experts in forensic matters are also in the team

Following the order, the CBI took over the case and sent a special medical and forensic team from Delhi to Kolkata. Officials associated with the agency said that a team of senior officials arrived on Wednesday morning and started investigating the horrific incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Officials said that experts in health and forensic matters have also been included in this special CBI team. The CBI team will visit the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This is the same hall where the body of a trainee doctor was found last week on August 9.

CBI formed 3 teams for investigation

An official of the investigating agency told news agency PTI that three teams of CBI officials have been formed to probe the case. In which one group will visit RG Car Hospital. He will also speak to witnesses and doctors on duty that night.

While another group will take the arrested volunteer to the local court after medical examination and file an application regarding his custody, the third group will coordinate with the investigating Kolkata police officers and get the information of the investigation so far.
