RJD MLC Sunil Kumar Singh Removed From Bihar Legislative Council, Action Taken For Impersonating CM Nitish Kumar

RJD leader Sunil Kumar Singh’s membership of the Bihar Legislative Council was revoked on charges of impersonating Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. A motion has been tabled in the Legislative Council on Friday following an incident of indecent behavior in the House earlier this year. The House passed the motion for the ouster of Sunil Kumar Singh by voice vote. A day before this, the Ethics Committee handed over its report to the Executive Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh.

Sunil Kumar Singh is very close to RJD president Lalu Prasad and his family. On February 13, he had a heated argument with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in the House. Along with Sunil Kumar Singh, another RJD Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Mohammad Qari Soheb was also suspended from the House for two days. The report revealed that during the investigation, Sohaib expressed regret for his actions, while Singh did not accept his statement.

The opposition was already apprehensive about the cancellation of Sunil Singh’s membership. For this reason, RJD MLAs including Leader of Opposition Rabi Devi reached the House wearing black badges to protest. Meanwhile, Sunil Singh criticized the Chief Minister and called him a vindictive person.

Rabi Devi upset with cancellation of membership

Citing the example of a deputy chief minister, the RJD leader said you need look no further than Samrat Chaudhary, who has been replaced as the state BJP chief by cabinet colleague Dilip Kumar Jaiswal.

However, BJP national media co-convenor Sanjay Mayukhe, who is also an MLC, claimed that Chaudhary’s transfer was in line with the party’s policy of allowing a person to hold only one post.

On the cancellation of Sunil Singh’s membership, former Chief Minister Rabri Devi asked if the House would dare to take action against Nitish Kumar.

RJD MLC and ethics committee member Ashok Kumar Pandey claimed that though the report made unanimous recommendations, the proceedings were not shared with the committee despite repeated requests. Rabadi Devi said the decision will be taken by the RJD supremo, who is her husband, and son Tejashwi Yadav, who is the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.
