Devotees worshiping Shivalinga

There are many famous temples in Uttar Pradesh which have different beliefs. Devotees throng these temples. There is a Shiva temple in Kannauj district which is believed to mirror the Baba Vishwanath temple in Banaras. The special thing is that the name of this Shiva temple is also Baba Vishwanath temple. It is said that there is a very interesting fact behind it.

This hundreds of years old Shiva temple is amazing in itself. It is believed that this Shivling came to Kanauj from the Himalayas in the lap of Mother Ganga and the Shivling of Lord Shiva in Banaras was also established by the same priests who established this Shivling in Kannauj. The priest wanted to take this Shivlinga with him to Banaras but a miracle happened on the part of Lord Shiva and the priest took the Shivlinga out of the Ganges and kept it there, where it was installed. After many attempts this Shivlinga did not move even an inch, after which the priest installed it at this place.

The temple is more than 400 years old

The temple is located in Chaudharyanpur village, about 4 km from Kannauj railway station. It is said that this temple is more than 400 years old. It is believed that whoever worships Lord Shiva sincerely in this temple, his wishes are surely fulfilled, said Bhola, the temple priest who has been serving the temple for a long time. He says that this Shiva temple is another form of Baba Vishwanath temple in Banaras.

The Shivalinga flowed into the Ganges

The priest said that this Shivlinga came here after flowing into the Ganga as the river Ganga was flowing here at that time. At the same time, the chief priest of Benares had a dream that a Shivling had flown down the Ganges to Kannauj, where he had to set it up. After this, realizing Lord Shiva’s orders, all the prominent priests of Banaras set out in search of this Shivlinga.

The Shivling did not move from its place

In the meantime all reached the Chaudharypur area of Kannauj where this Shivlinga was seen on the banks of the Ganges. The priest said that by that time it was already night due to which he kept the Shivlinga in one place. In the morning when he started lifting the Shivlinga, the Shivlinga did not move from its place. The priest wanted to take this Shivlinga with him to Banaras as this Shivlinga was very similar to Baba Vishwanath’s Shivlinga. But Shivling does not move. After which the priests decided that this is the glory of Lord Shiva who wants to reside here.

A crowd of devotees gathers

The priests worshiped this Shivlinga with full rituals and installed it at the same place. Since then this temple was named Baba Vishwanath. This is the second Baba Vishwanath temple in India. The first temple is in Banaras and the second temple is in Kannauj. In the month of Savan, devotees come from far and wide to offer water anointing and milk anointing to Lord Shiva. Some devotees say that Lord Shiva fulfills the wishes of every devotee who worships here sincerely.
