The Texas Longhorns remain atop our SEC football power rankings following Week 4 of the college football season. The SEC continues to look like the top conference in college football. In fact, the SEC has five of the top six teams in the US LBM Coaches Poll.
The SEC’s top game of Week 4 featured Tennessee picking up a 25-15 road win at Oklahoma. ESPN’s “College GameDay” attended the Tennessee-Oklahoma game, which turned into a defensive brawl. Tennessee’s defense held the Oklahoma offense in check all day and is a big reason why the Volunteers have a legitimate chance to win the SEC.
The SEC went 6-0 against nonconference opponents in Week 4. Most of the SEC’s nonconference schedule is now thankfully over. LSU defeated UCLA at home in the SEC’s best nonconference game in Week 4.
Week 5 will feature one of the top college football games all season as No. 1 Georgia travels to play No. 4 Alabama. However, we don’t have Georgia as the No. 1 team in our power rankings.
SEC football power rankings after Week 4
1. Texas Longhorns (4-0)
Texas’ 51-3 win over Louisiana Monroe is enough for the Longhorns to maintain our the No. 1 spot in our SEC power rankings.
2. Alabama Crimson Tide (3-0)
Alabama and quarterback Jalen Milroe had a bye in Week 3. The Crimson Tide host Georgia in a top five battle on Sept. 28 in what should be one of the best college football games of the year.
3. Georgia Bulldogs (3-0)
Quarterback Carson Beck and Georgia had a bye in Week 4. The Bulldogs face Alabama on the road in a rematch of the 2023 SEC championship.
Quarterback Nico Iamaleava and Tennessee played well the Volunteers’ 25-15 road win over the Oklahoma Sooners. The Volunteers’ defense continues to impress. Tennessee allowed Oklahoma to rush for just 36 yards.
5. Ole Miss Rebels (4-0)
Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Jaxson Dart had another dominant performance in the Rebels’ 52-13 home win over Georgia Southern. The Rebels are in a tier above Missouri, but don’t really have an impressive win yet.
6. Missouri Tigers (4-0)
Missouri quarterback Brady Cook connected with star wide receiver Luther Burden for two touchdown passes in the Tigers’ 30-27 overtime win over Vanderbilt. Overtime wins over Vandy aren’t a good sign for the Tigers’ playoff hopes.
7. LSU Tigers (3-1)
The LSU Tigers secured another win over a Power Four opponent. LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier threw for 352 passing yards and three touchdowns in the Tigers’ 34-17 win over UCLA.
8. Oklahoma Sooners (3-1)
Oklahoma looked pretty clunky offensively against the Tennessee Volunteers. Oklahoma’s 25-15 loss to Tennessee is not the start to the SEC era that Sooners were hoping for.
9. South Carolina Gamecocks (2-1)
South Carolina quarterback Robby Ashford had 376 total yards of offense and three total touchdowns in the Gamecocks’ 50-7 win over Akron.
10. Texas A&M Aggies (3-1)
Texas A&M won 26-20 in an unimpressive performance against Bowling Green. The Aggies can beat or lose to any team in the SEC.
11. Arkansas Razorbacks (3-1)
Quarterback Taylen Green and the Razorbacks continue to look like one of the better offenses in the SEC. The Razorbacks’ defense forced five turnovers as Arkansas won 24-14 at Auburn.
12. Kentucky Wildcats (2-2)
Kentucky and quarterback Brock Vandagriff took care of business in their 41-6 home win over Ohio.
13. Florida Gators (2-2)
Quarterback Graham Mertz threw more touchdowns (three) than incompletions (two) in Florida’s 45-28 road win at Mississippi State. Things don’t get any easier for the Gators from here.
14. Auburn Tigers (2-2)
Auburn suffered a rough 24-14 loss at home to Arkansas. The Tigers threw four interceptions including three from quarterback Hank Brown.
15. Vanderbilt Commodores (2-2)
Vanderbilt bounced back in Week 4 after suffering an embarrassing loss to Georgia State. The Commodores took Missouri to overtime and nearly pulled off a huge upset. Vandy lost 30-27, but showed that it is a dangerous team.
16. Mississippi State Bulldogs (1-3)
Mississippi State lost at home to Florida, 45-28, a week after losing to Toledo. A bowl game is highly unlikely for the Bulldogs.
