Gurmeet Ram Rahim furlough row: The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Samiti (SGPC) has questioned the leave of Dera Sacha Sauda chief and jailed rape accused Ram Rahim. In Haryana on Tuesday, the SGPC once again hit out at the BJP over its decision to grant leave to Ram Rahim. Committee spokesperson Gurcharan Singh Grewal said it was unfortunate that the Haryana government was granting parole to rape and murder convicts time and again.
He said that the Haryana government is using Gurmeet Ram Rahim as a political stepping stone for elections. Regarding this, SGPC Chief Harjinder Singh Dhami said that we had repeatedly applied to the High Court to grant parole to Ram Rahim, which was rejected by the High Court. On August 10, the High Court rejected the plea of ​​the Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee.
There is no such provision for our prisoner Singh – SGPC
The SGPC chief said that we filed a petition, which was dismissed by the High Court. We knew what the government was going to do, we knew its decision. Presently 21 days furlough is given, more days may be given in coming days. He said that last time Ram Rahim was granted parole for 7 days. We are now evaluating what to do next.
In fact, the SGPC had repeatedly petitioned the High Court to grant parole to Ram Rahim. On August 10, the High Court dismissed the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Samiti’s plea, which raised questions on Ram Rahim’s repeated parole or furlough. The High Court clarified that the state government is competent to decide on such issues.
Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhan Samiti spokesperson Gurcharan Singh Grewal said this is unfortunate. The Sikh Panth and major organizations of Sikhism have challenged such decisions in the High Court in the past. And even now they are preparing to fight a legal battle against it. Ram Rahim is being granted parole or furlough for the tenth time. But there is no such provision for our captive Singh and religious prisoners.
Everything is happening according to law – BJP
On the other hand, Punjab BJP has considered the furlough given to Ram Rahim as appropriate. Senior Punjab BJP leader Harjit Grewal said that Ram Rahim has been granted furlough as per the jail manual. SGPC should have no objection to this. Grewal said that SGPC had filed an application earlier too, now if they are not satisfied they should file the application again.

BJP leader Harjit Grewal said that everything is being done according to law. There should be no objection if he is given the same facilities as other prisoners because of his good behaviour. It is also wrong to hold the center responsible for this, it is the state government’s job.
