Film ‘Mujib: The Making of a Nation’ on Sheikh Hasina’s father

The protests that started against reservation in Bangladesh took the form of a movement. The matter escalated to such an extent that Sheikh Hasina resigned as Prime Minister. He has also left the country. His father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the founder of Bangladesh and also the first President of the country. A film has also been made on his life, directed by Indian director Shyam Benegal. The name of the film is ‘Mujib: The Making of a Nation’.

The film was released in theaters in October 2023. The film shows how Mujibur Rahman’s political journey began, how he worked for the independence of Bangladesh. The film is jointly produced by National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC). The film was released in Hindi along with Bengali. Arifin Shuvu played the role of Mujib in it.

What was the story of the film ‘Mujeeb’?

Famous Hindi cinema actor and director Rajit Kapoor was also a part of this film. In this he played the role of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the 4th President and 9th Prime Minister of Pakistan. Gaurav Sharma, Mehmood Siddiqui, Nusrat Imroz Tisha were also seen in this film. The film shows that when East Pakistan demanded to make Bengali its national language, Mohammad Ali Jinnah flatly refused to do so. Then Mujibur Rehman left the Muslim League and came into the fray with the demand to make Bengali the national language.

The story of the film begins with Mujib returning to his country after spending 9 months in a Pakistani jail. When he returns to his country, he tells the people there that he will be hanged in prison. The film’s story ends with a military coup when he and his entire family are killed. No one is spared. Sheikh Hasina and her sister Rehana were rescued at the time as they were both away from their families in Germany.

Arifin Shuvu was very fit in the role of Mujib in the film and Nusrat Imroz Tisha also did a good job in the role of his wife. Both these actors are well-known names of Bangladesh. Apart from this film, Arifin has acted in many other great films, in which he was well liked. Some of the movies are – ‘Mission Extreme’, ‘Dhaka Attack’, ‘Black War: Mission Extreme 2’. Director Shyam Benegal returned to the world of film direction after almost 14 years with this film. ‘Well Done Abba’ in the year 2009. After that, not a single film of his has been released since 2023.
