Apart from him, Udaybhan’s younger brother Soorajbhan Karwaria has been an MLC. Many relatives of Udaybhan Karwaria are also in politics.
In which case was Udaybhan sentenced to life imprisonment?
In the year 1996, Jawahar Yadav alias Jawahar Pandit, a Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA from Jhunsi, was murdered. On 13 August 1996, Jawahar, his driver and a pedestrian were shot dead with an AK-47 in the Civil Lines area. This was the first time that an AK-47 crackdown took place in Prayagraj. Udayabhan, his brothers Kapilmuni and Surajbhan and relative Ramachandra were accused of the triple murder.
Six years after the carnage, Udaybhan became an MLA and escaped jail because of his authority, but Udaybhan Karwariya was flogged in 2012 as soon as the SP government came to power in UP. Udaybhan surrendered along with his brothers and on 4 November 2019, the court convicted all the accused and sentenced them to life imprisonment. Udaybhan was released from jail only 5 years after his conviction. The reason was good behavior in prison.
