Leader of Opposition in Bihar Tejashwi Yadav has opposed the Supreme Court’s decision to implement quotas in SC-ST reservations and the creamy layer in it. Tejashwi Yadav said that our party (RJD) has consistently maintained that reservation is not a poverty alleviation scheme. He said that when the basis of reservation for 𝐒𝐂/𝐒𝐓 is not economic then why is the provision of creamy layer being introduced in it?

This decision is against the basic spirit of the Indian Constitution and the 𝟏𝟗𝟑𝟐 Poona Agreement. The basis of reservation is not economic but age-old social discrimination, untouchability and social backwardness. Even today, when former chief ministers Jitanram Manjhi and Akhilesh Yadav visit the temple, the self-proclaimed high officials from birth wash the temple with Ganga water.

RJD leader Tejashwi said that a handful of people cannot be the destiny makers of crores of Dalits and tribals of the country. The Dalit, Tribal and Scheduled Castes/Tribes Commission of the country having statutory status is able to think about its merits and demerits. The government should not try to impose its decisions on them. We want the central government to remove the discrepancies regarding classification by bringing an ordinance without any delay, otherwise there will be a street conflict with dalit-tribal brothers and sisters.

Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has decided to start a state-wide yatra from August 15 to expose the alleged failures of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s government. At the same time, Tejashwi Yadav has questioned the Nitish Kumar government’s commitment to restore increased reservation for deprived castes. He alleged that despite being part of the ruling coalition at the Centre, Nitish Kumar has failed to grant special status to Bihar. Tejaswi also claimed that crime is increasing rapidly in the state.
