These 5 Hours Of The Night Are Heavy On Delhi Roads, With 89 Percent Of Those Who Die In Accidents Being Men.


The Delhi government has prepared a special report on the daily road accidents in Delhi. After studying the accidents that occurred in the year 2022, the Delhi government has said that most of these accidents occur during off hours i.e. from 9 pm to 2 am. At the same time, most of those who die in these accidents are men. According to this report, pedestrians are the most killed in road accidents in Delhi. While bikers are in second place. Similarly, the death rate among four-wheeler drivers is only five percent.

This shocking report of the Delhi government has recently been released by the transport department. In this report, the department has studied all the accidents that occurred in the year 2022 and also mentioned the reasons. According to this report by the Delhi Transport Department, pedestrians account for 50 percent of all road accident deaths in the year 2022. The government has said that most of these accidents could have been prevented. Similarly, 45 percent of bikers also suffer accidents and die.

Only 11 percent of women died

According to this report, a total of 1517 such accidents occurred in that year in which people died and these accidents could have been prevented. This figure is about 28 percent higher than last year. In this government report, 97 percent of road accident deaths are believed to be due to negligence and violation of traffic rules. While only 11 percent of women have been victims of accidents.

Most of the accidents happen at night

Most of those who died were in the age group of 30 to 39 years. The Delhi government has prepared this report to formulate a strategy to reduce road accidents in Delhi. It has been found that most of the serious accidents occur during off hours i.e. between 9 pm to 2 am and this is also said to be due to the lighting of the roads. It is believed that in the dead of night, motorists run away after hitting other vehicles. In such a situation, the injured do not receive timely treatment and die.

Keeping this report in mind, the Delhi government has emphasized on special arrangements to deal with hit-and-run cases. According to the report, 59 percent of the deaths in road accidents are due to hit and run and most of the victims are pedestrians. The report suggests some measures to reduce such cases. These specifically include ways to identify and remove dark spots.

These are the causes of accidents

According to the report, the highest number of black spots in Delhi are in New Delhi and western districts. While such places are less in the North-Eastern district. The reasons for this, the report says, are sidewalks, shorter crossing distances for pedestrians on roads, higher crosswalks, more frequent public transport and major risk factors such as speeding, riding without a helmet, driving under the influence and not wearing a seat.
