The USC football program approaches 2024 with new sights focused on greater heights. The once-dominant collegiate football program looks for a new life and a new start as a member of the Big Ten Conference.
With new additions to the USC football roster and coaching staff, Brock Vierra of NBS Media sat down with Trojans Wire to pick my brain on the pressing issues and questions surrounding the men of Troy. I have kept a close eye on the USC program inside and out. I would like to thank Brock for inviting me to this one-on-one conversation about the Trojans with college football now just a few weeks away.
With that being said let’s talks Trojans football.
1. LSU vs USC
Brock: USC has a big matchup to kick off the season, playing LSU in Las Vegas. If USC is able to beat LSU, what do they need to do to accomplish said feat?
Don James: They need to stop the run first and foremost and protect Miller Moss so he has time to throw to these explosive WRs. If those two things happen they have a shot to win against a loaded LSU team.
2. USC Incoming Transfers in 2024
Brock: Who are your favorite USC transfers and why?
Don James: My favorite transfers are the UCLA guys, defensive backs John Humphrey and Kamari Ramsey.
3. D’Anton Lynn’s defense
Brock: How will D’Anton Lynn’s defense adjust to the Big Ten?
Don James: I don’t think it’ll take them too long to adjust to be honest. The hardest part will be deep in the season with the lack of depth they have in the trenches.
4. USC’s floor
Brock: What’s the floor for USC in 2024?
Don James: The floor is a disaster season with a 7-5 record again. Coach Riley might get canned if that happens, but it’s kinda realistic with the strength of their schedule this year.
5. Lincoln Riley’s future
Brock: Will Lincoln Riley win a conference championship in Southern California?
Don James: I think he wins one in the next five years. I believe he’s the right man for this job, I still believe in his staff and in his tenure, he will win one.
