Union Cabinet Approves Rs 2 Lakh Crore Project To Build New India, PM Modi Says

The Union Cabinet has approved five infrastructure projects to increase inter-city connectivity through metro rail in Karnataka and Maharashtra and improve air connectivity in Bihar and north-west Bengal. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said the government has approved infrastructure projects worth about Rs 2 lakh crore since he assumed office in June. He said it was clear from this that the government’s priority is to create employment and advance economic growth.

Assembly elections are due in Maharashtra later this year. The Prime Minister said in the X post that we are making continuous efforts to ensure that Maharashtra gets modern infrastructure. The Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the third phase of the Bengaluru Metro project, which includes two elevated corridors. Its length will be 44.65 kilometres and will have 31 stations.

These projects will be worked on

JP Corridor-1 City. The fourth phase will connect the city to Kempapura (via Outer Ring Road West), which will be 32.15 km long and will have 22 stations. Corridor-2 from Hosahalli to Kadbagere (along Magadi Road) will have nine stations over a length of 12.5 kilometres. The Cabinet said in a statement that the project cost is Rs 15,611 crore but Phase III, once operational, will add 220.2 kilometres of metro network in the southern city. The Cabinet also approved the extension of the existing PCMC-Swargate metro line from Swargate to Katraj metro line of the Pune Metro Phase-1 project.

This is the focus of the government.

This new extension, called Line 1B Extension, will span 5.46 kilometres and include three metro stations, connecting key areas like the suburbs of Market Yard, Bibwewadi, Balaji Nagar and Katraj. The estimated cost of the project, to be completed by February 2029, is Rs 2,954.53 crore, and the funds will be shared equally between the central and Maharashtra governments, along with contributions from bilateral agencies.
